Hi, I'm Rachael! I grew up in Texas, went to school in Arkansas, and am so excited to have moved up here to New England. I graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I love yoga, classical music, opera, art, figure skating, and spending time with my little Chihuahua (my son) named Bug!
Most of my clinical experience has been working with kids and teens navigating autism, ADHD, anxiety and/or panic attacks. I also have experience working with adults with a variety of therapeutic goals (and I've found my gen z-ness to be unique therapeutic strength for adult clients who are open to it ).
When I'm not at the Artful Life, you might find me walking around in nature or singing at Symphony Hall with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus alongside Boston Symphony Orchestra. I've found that intuitive movement, music, and the arts are deeply healing. I believe that these are all incredible tools to help us come back to the present and to reconnect with our authentic selves.
Our first session will focus on getting acquainted with the space, any materials we might use in sessions, and what goals you (and/or your child) would like to focus on. During our first session, I'm just focusing on starting to get to know you. I like to keep my sessions relaxed and low pressure. Our sessions should be a time where you are able to feel safe to just come as you are. :)
I work from a person-centered therapy approach. Sessions are largely client-led and non-directive, focusing on building a strong therapeutic relationship where clients of all ages can build confidence in finding their own answers. I am also a certified yoga instructor, so I love integrating mindfulness and gentle movement into my sessions when it fits. I love to incorporate all forms of art, music, and play into sessions to assist with communication and emotional processing. I also like doing sessions sitting on the floor for those who are open to it! :)
I love hiking, and I'm determined to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail someday!
