Undergraduate Degree - Emmanuel College
Masters Degree - Lesley University
Specialty/Age Groups Treated - I typically work with tweens, teens, and young adults; focusing on anxiety/mood disorders, ADHD, self-esteem/self-confidence, women's/girls' issues, and life transitions. I also work as a school mental health counselor in a local therapeutic program (grades 9-12), so I am very familiar with school-based concerns as well.
I am a lifelong resident of the North Shore and a clinical mental health counselor. I completed my master’s degree with a specialty in art therapy from Lesley University in 2017, and I’m also a proud alum of Emmanuel College, where I began my studies in art therapy. Currently, I work full-time as a school mental health counselor in a local high school, and I have experience working with children and teens. My favorite media to use in art making are watercolor and ink. Besides creating art in my free time, I love spending time outdoors and going long-distance running.
In our first session, I like to talk about what are some goals and expectations that you have for therapy. I think its important to take that time to start to get to know one another and discuss what are the best ways that I can support you through the therapeutic process. Especially if this is your first time meeting with a therapist, I want to make sure we take the time to "debunk" any myths about therapy and clearly outline what we focus on in future sessions!
Some of my favorite approaches include some kind of art-making as part of our sessions. I know that sometimes talk-therapy makes the most sense and I always emphasize meeting people "where they're at" when in sessions. I am person centered, strengths focused, and trauma informed. I want to support individuals in finding their voice, advocating for themselves, and learning/using skills and tools that can help people navigate stressors in life. I am trained in Basic EMDR and will weave some of the skills and techniques into sessions where it makes the most sense.
Besides making art, I love being outside, and long distance running is a hobby of mine. I've run quite a few half-marathons and I was even a high school track coach at one point! There is so much about to learn and understand in the world of sports and how important of a role mental health can play into it.
