  • Our first session is all about setting a tone and pace that feels comfortable for you. I like to use the first session as a time to get to know each other, get a sense of the direction you want to head in, and answer any questions about the space or the process. We will also talk about how I can best structure sessions for you and start brainstorming goals together. Therapy is a vulnerable endeavor. My goal for our first session is for you to leave feeling more comfortable with the beginning of your journey.

  • I like to take a holistic, client-first approach to therapy based in narrative therapy and ACT. This could look like traditional talk therapy, writing about feelings or events, creating playlists for self care, using music to externalize feelings and express yourself, and doing work around values and committed action. I often lean into pragmatic approaches in therapy as well. We might rehearse or role play for an upcoming interview or presentation, set up an organization system or practice ways to communicate what we need. It all comes down to what best suits you at that moment.

  • Scientists have successfully turned peanut butter into diamonds! I have strong opinions on which one is more precious.

I’m Sal Barbagallo, a masters-level clinician and longtime musician. I approach this work through collaboration with my clients and empowering them to reach their goals. I believe that who we are is influenced by the stories we tell about ourselves. I pull from a combination of Narrative Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients reclaim their personal narratives through storytelling, writing and music.

I grew up as part of the DIY music scene on the North Shore. Those experiences solidified my commitment to authenticity, inclusion and the celebration of our identities. I understand the beauty of, and the difficulty in, navigating life and expressing our complexities. I invite you to come as you are and know that this space will welcome you.

Outside of my professional life, catch me adoring my two cats Josie and Rosie.
