A typical first session, after the intial intake, will usually involve some art (I mean, I am an Art Therapist; got to put that degree to use at some point) in which we get to know each other and hopefully start to build a connection and relationship that allows for future work. I tend to prefer to ease into things, as I know it can be hard to develop trust in someone you've only just met. While I do take my job and all the responsibilites that come along with being someone's therapist very serious, I also want people to feel comfortable and at ease so my goal is to set a relaxed space to start. I feel that the relational aspect of therapy can be one of the most impactful aspects of the process and know that it takes time to develop.

While I really do love using art in anyway that I can, I also understand that it can be intimidating sometimes for people to use matierals or approaches that are unfamiliar. That's why when (or even if) I do use art, I try my best to meet people where they are and use what is most accessible for them to start. For me personally, I really enjoy using water color, but it took me a long time to feel comfortable with that material, which is why I'm always open to trying new things or even trying familiar materials in new ways. I'm also EMDR trained, so I try to incoporate that as an option for any and all clients that think they might benefit from it.

I am a licensed mental health counselor who earned my Master’s degree in Art Therapy from Lesley University in 2010. Since then, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings. Being well-versed in multiple art mediums allows me to utilize a combination of approaches in my art therapy practice to best meet the needs of each individual.
Clinically, I am committed to supporting individuals from a holistic perspective and adapting to their unique needs. Having worked with people from diverse backgrounds, I am mindful of how one’s environment and circumstances impact the issues at hand and how best to address them. My work may involve visual arts, music, movement, play therapy, and various other approaches. Additionally, I strive to empower my clients to gain a sense of agency over their own lives and to feel confident in addressing any challenges or stressors that may arise.
