Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

A creative, trauma-informed approach to psychedelic therapy

Imagine a More Artful Path to Healing

At The Artful Life Counseling Center & Studio, we offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)—an innovative, evidence-informed treatment that blends the healing potential of psychedelic medicine with the grounding power of compassionate therapy. All sessions are conducted in a warm, trauma-informed setting by clinicians who deeply understand both the science and soul of healing.

What is KAP?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a transformative therapeutic approach that combines guided psychotherapy with the administration of sublingual ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic with unique antidepressant and neuroplastic effects.

Here’s how it works:

  • Sublingual ketamine is administered in a safe, controlled environment. The medicine is absorbed under the tongue and induces a non-ordinary state of consciousness—a deeply introspective, often symbolic space in which insight and emotional processing can occur.

  • A trained therapist is present throughout your session, helping you set intentions beforehand and offering support as the medicine helps loosen entrenched thought patterns, emotional pain, or trauma stored in the body.

  • Following the journey, we use talk therapy, creative expression, and integration work to help you anchor what emerged and apply it to your everyday life.

Ketamine may be especially beneficial for people experiencing:

  • Treatment-resistant depression

  • Generalized anxiety and panic

  • PTSD and trauma-related symptoms

  • Disconnection from purpose, creativity, or emotional expression

KAP is not a quick fix—it’s a collaborative healing journey designed to create spaciousness, insight, and hope where there may have been stuckness or suffering.

Why Choose The Artful Life?

What sets The Artful Life apart is how we hold your healing—not just the tools we use.

We Offer:

🌀 Trauma-Informed, Compassionate Care

Our licensed clinicians understand the nuances of trauma, grief, and emotional complexity. We create a container of safety, curiosity, and nonjudgment for your inner work.

🎨 Creative Expression & Integration

As a center rooted in expressive arts therapy, we encourage clients to bring journals, sketchpads, or symbolic objects to enhance their journeys. Your KAP experience may include drawing, writing, or movement as part of your healing integration.

🛋️ A Cozy, Studio-Based Setting

We’re not a sterile medical office—we’re a warm, home-like studio where each detail (music, lighting, textures, objects) is intentionally curated to help you feel grounded, held, and at ease.

🌱 Relational Healing

We see the therapeutic relationship as central to the work. Our approach emphasizes mutual respect, gentle pacing, and deep listening—so that you're never alone in your process.

What to Expect in a KAP Journey

  •  You'll meet with your therapist to explore your goals, intentions, and readiness. You’ll also receive instructions for picking up your ketamine lozenges and preparing your body/mind.

  • You’ll arrive at our studio and settle in. You’ll self-administer your sublingual ketamine dose and lie back with cozy blankets, music, and eye masks while your therapist holds space and supports your inner journey.

  • After the session, you’ll take time to rest and reflect. Your therapist will follow up with integration sessions over the following days/weeks to help you deepen the impact.

The Power of Integration

Integration is the heart of the KAP process.

The psychedelic experience can open deep wells of memory, symbolism, insight, and emotion. But the real magic happens when those insights are understood, processed, and woven into your daily life.

Within 1-3 days after each medicine session, you’ll participate in one or more Integration Sessions with your therapist. These 55-minute sessions help you:

  • Reflect on your experience in a safe, grounded space

  • Explore themes, questions, or emotional shifts that arose

  • Make meaning of images, memories, or sensations

  • Develop new patterns of thinking, behavior, and self-care

  • Prevent the collapse back into old habits or overwhelm

You may choose to integrate through conversation, journaling, art-making, body-based awareness, or mindfulness practices. Integration is also a space to slow down and honor the ongoing nature of your healing.

*Clients often describe integration sessions as just as impactful as the medicine journey.
